Getting Started
Pixy is designed to work right away with no setup. Upon activation, the plugin will contact the Pixy API to request auto-configuration. It will send over the domain and public IP of your website, and will obtain a unique identificator. This identificator will be used to perform all image optimizations and conversion to AVIF and WebP formats, as well as to avoid the need for you to create an account or share personal information like your email address. No other data is being sent.
Install the plugin
Install Pixy from the WordPress plugin directory. Pixy Pro users should use the link sent to them via email instead, download the Pixy pro zip file, and install it from the “Upload Plugin” feature in their WordPress dashboard.
Activate Pixy
Activate the plugin in your WordPress admin area. You will be presented with a Start Wizard that outlines Pixy’s features and some of it’s functions. Click “Activate” and Pixy will apply the recommended base configuration automatically.
Keep the toggles ON
For most websites, the best Pixy settings are to simply keep all toggles turned on. The plugin does this automatically during activation, except for the Maximum Compression toggle. You can toggle this ON yourself if you need even lighter images and you are willing to trade off some image quality.
Clear any page cache
Speed Mode will rewrite image links on your website. Purge the cache if your website is using a page caching plugin, Cloudflare, or any server-side cache.
Verify the speed improvement
After activation, review your website and check your PageSpeed Insights results to confirm the impact. Pixy uses it’s Speed Mode feature automatically which means there is no need to do bulk optimization of your media library. Speed Mode compresses, converts and optimizes images to the AVIF format the first time they are loaded by a visitor. From the second view, the optimized images load at high speed for all visitors and take no extra space on your server or hosting account.
